A 44-year-old New Jersey man who authorities say was driving under the influence during a 2024 crash in Pennsylvania that killed his 12-year-old passenger has been charged in the girl’s death, according to court records.
Jesse R. Stewart crashed a Jeep into a tree at about 8 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2024 on Silver Lake Road in Porter Township in the Poconos, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
PoconoRecord.com reported that the girl’s mother was also in the vehicle. She and Stewart, of the Highland Lakes section of Vernon, survived the crash.
Stewart is charged with involuntary manslaughter, vehicular homicide and aggravated assault by vehicle, court records state. He is also charged with multiple counts of driving under the influence and faces numerous motor vehicle summonses.
PoconoRecord.com reported Stewart was under the influence of marijuana and opioids.
Charges were filed July 6. His next court date is Aug. 11.
