Tinder date says he woke to sex act. Now woman must register as a sex offender.

A Johnston County woman pleaded guilty earlier this month to photographing a sex act on her Tinder date as he slept, court records show.

“Reina” Chavez-Fuentes, 21, identified in court documents as Jose Jimy Chavez-Fuentes, was sentenced July 8 to a minimum of six months and a maximum of 17 months in prison on a charge of felony possession of a photo obtained by a secret peeping violation.

That sentence was suspended in lieu of three years of supervised probation, according to sentencing documents.

Chavez-Fuentes was arrested by Clayton police in April, more than half a year after the victim reported the assault, according to court documents.

Chavez-Fuentes and the victim met on Tinder, with the assault occurring at the victim’s house Aug. 7, 2025, according to a search warrant in the case. The victim knew Chavez-Fuentes as “Reina” or “Ms. Reina,” according to court documents.

The victim told investigators the pair got into bed together when he became sleepy that night. He woke up to Chavez-Fuentes performing oral sex on him and later discovered Chavez-Fuentes had recorded it on his phone, the warrant states.

Research shows dating app assaults tend to occur during the first in-person meeting, according to reseacher Julie Valentine, who studied such incidents. Valentine said in a 2022 interview that 14% of sexual assaults she examined from 2017 to 2020 took place during such meetings.

The victim provided audio messages he’d exchanged with Chavez-Fuentes after the incident where Chavez-Fuentes apologized and confessed.

“I wasn’t thinking,” Chavez-Fuentes said in a transcript from the search warrant. “But it wasn’t that long. You woke up immediately. Well, not immediately ... [after] a few minutes.”

Chavez-Fuentes must register as a sex offender and undergo a mental health evaluation, according to sentencing documents. She also must remove any photos of the victim from her iCloud account and may not access the account again.

Chavez-Fuentes was released from jail after being sentenced. A notice of appeal in the case remained pending as of Wednesday afternoon.
