Newcastle ready to listen to offers for three first-team players: Report

Newcastle United’s younger recruitment drive could lead to more experienced players leaving St. James’ Park before the summer window closes.

According to The Athletic’s Chris Waugh, Newcastle would consider offers for Nick Pope, Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy, although none of the three is guaranteed to depart, pending other business.

“Newcastle would listen to offers for all three players, but whether they are sold remains to be seen,” Waugh wrote.

Any Pope exit hinges on Newcastle first signing a new No. 1. The 34-year-old has received no offers, but the club would allow him to explore a move if James Trafford or another senior goalkeeper arrives.

“Particularly in the case of Pope, a replacement goalkeeper [would need] to arrive first,” Waugh reported.

Willock could also become available as Newcastle continues searching for another midfielder after Sean Steur’s arrival. Johan Manzambi was viewed as a potential replacement or upgrade before Aston Villa moved ahead in that transfer race, so a new alternative must emerge before considering Willock’s sale. However, Newcastle has not received firm interest in the 26-year-old for now.

“With Sean Steur already signed, Howe usually runs with six senior midfielders, meaning Willock would be made available,” Waugh wrote.

Finally, Murphy’s future may depend on both an acceptable offer and another attacking addition. Waugh reported that Newcastle has long been open to selling the winger, with Everton reportedly exploring a deal.

“Newcastle may have been receptive to offers pretty much since the takeover happened,” Waugh wrote.

Eddie Howe hopes Bazoumana Toure can operate on the right, potentially opening the door for Murphy. But Newcastle may need another winger before sanctioning his departure.
