New Virginia Tech AD Brian White makes another big hire

Virginia Tech AD Brian White with another big hire.

The Virginia Tech Hokies aren’t wasting any more time. Shortly after VT hired Brian White as athletic director last month, he brought along his top assistant, Ryan Gottlieb, as the new Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Strategy Officer.

Then, White hired Brad Bell as the new Executive Associate Athletics Director of Advancement and Executive Director.

Gottlieb and Bell, like White, are known as excellent fundraisers, showing a massive shift in Virginia Tech’s philosophy. The Hokies are no longer reacting to moves being made around them. They are making top-tier hires that show they are serious about being competitive in the current college sports landscape.

This week, White made another big hire, naming Mary Giardina as Virginia Tech’s new Deputy Athletics Director and Chief of Staff. Giardina comes over from West Virginia, where she served as executive senior associate athletics director for student-athlete experience, governance and compliance.

Giardina brings a wealth of experience to Blacksburg, having previously served at Florida Atlantic with White and Gottlieb. Giardina also spent time at Duke, where she was the executive director of compliance.

“I’m incredibly honored and grateful to join Brian and the Virginia Tech family,” Giardina said, via hokiesports.com. “Virginia Tech has a proud tradition, an incredibly passionate fan base and a clear vision for where this department is headed. Having worked alongside Brian, I know the standard of excellence he expects and the culture he builds. I’m excited to help support our coaches and staff, serve our student-athletes and contribute to a championship-caliber experience in every aspect of Hokie Athletics.”

It’s a new era in Blacksburg.
