After Mercedes-Benz refreshed the standard GLS SUV model, the new Maybach version has now been introduced as well.
The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 brings a redesigned exterior, a more powerful engine and an updated interior. Sales are expected to begin toward the end of this year.
More powerful V8 engine and active suspension
The new Maybach GLS is powered by an upgraded version of Mercedes' 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with the internal designation M177 Evo. The engine now produces 612 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque, an increase of 53 hp and 120 Nm compared with the previous model. The V8 engine is electrified and uses a second-generation starter-generator.
Mercedes has also improved the steering system, while the Maybach GLS comes standard with Airmatic air suspension. As optional equipment, buyers can choose the new E-Active Body Control system, which actively controls the springs and dampers to reduce body roll and other movements.
Distinctive design and a luxurious cabin
The 2027 Maybach GLS features a completely redesigned front end, including an illuminated frame around the grille. The Maybach emblem on the grille is also illuminated, as is the Mercedes-Benz star on the hood, marking the first time the brand has introduced such a feature.
Standard equipment includes 22-inch wheels with a 20-hole design. Optional forged 23-inch wheels are also available, featuring a mechanism that keeps the star logo on the wheel in an upright position at all times.
Inside, like the standard GLS, the Maybach model features the MBUX Superscreen system with three displays and the latest software generation. The cabin is further enhanced with rose gold-colored instrument details, illuminated exterior air vents and an improved massage function for the front and rear seats.
The audio system has also been upgraded. The standard Burmester 3D Surround system now includes Dolby Atmos technology, two additional speakers for a total of 15, and a 710-watt amplifier.
Availability and expected price
The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 will begin arriving at dealerships toward the end of this year. Mercedes has not yet announced the price of the updated model.
