A 2025 movie remains one of Netflix's biggest movies of 2026.

There seems to be no stopping Huntr/x as KPop Demon Hunters is one of Netflix's biggest movies of 2026. And that's despite having debuted a year ago, in June 2025.

This information comes via Netflix's semi-annual What We Watched report, covering the first six months of 2026. In that time period, KPop Demon Hunters gained 130 million views, the fourth-most-viewed Netflix original.

KPop Demon Hunters came in just behind the hit animated movie Swapped, which has been viewed 131 million times since its debut in May. The movie is on track to become Netflix's second-biggest animated original ever, behind (you guessed it) KPop Demon Hunters.

KPop Demon Hunters Is a Sensation

KPop Demon Hunters proved to be a bigger hit than anyone expected. The animated fantasy spent more than 52 straight weeks on Netflix's top 10 streaming movies list, and the sensation is growing beyond streaming. Netflix not only formally announced an upcoming KPop Demon Hunters sequel, but also a live concert tour featuring the singing voices behind Huntr/x.

Beyond that, KPop Demon Hunters will become one of the rare Netflix movies to receive a physical media release. It won't just be any old Blu-ray release either, but https://www.cbr.com/kpop-demon-hunters-blu-ray-release-criterion-collection/an inclusion in the esteemed Criterion Collection.

“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” KPop Demon Hunters co-director Maggie Kang said when Netflix announced the sequel. “There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”

Fellow co-director Chris Appelhans added, “These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”

What Is KPop Demon Hunters About?

KPop Demon Hunters has been a genuine hit with both critics and fans. The animated adventure has a 91% "Certified Fresh" positive score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its "infectious energy," "vibrant colors," and "terrific soundtrack." Fans on the site rate it even higher, awarding it a near-perfect 99% "Certified Hot" user score.

In KPop Demon Hunters, when they aren't selling out stadiums, Kpop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey use their secret identities as badass demon hunters to protect their fans from an ever-present supernatural threat. Together, they must face their biggest enemy yet – an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise.

Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans co-wrote and co-directed KPop Demon Hunters, which Sony Pictures Animation produced for Netflix. The film's voice cast includes Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. Ejae, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna provide the singing voices for Huntr/x in the movie and on the soundtrack, which has produced chart-topping, award-winning singles like "Golden."
