ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Now that the final goal has been scored in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, FBI Atlanta officials said nearly 100 drones were seized during the city’s hosting of eight matches in the tournament.
A total of 95 drones were seized.
FBI officials said a temporary flight restriction, or TFR, was put into place by the Federal Aviation Administration for the World Cup.
While most drones seized were not for anything nefarious, FBI officials said the seizures were because “people were unfamiliar with the TFR.”

FBI officials said the agency is working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia to determine if charges or fines will be levied, and the next steps for the seized drones.
If charges are sought, they would be federal since a federal agency issued the TFR, according to the FBI.
