NATO reacts to Drapatyi's appointment as Ukraine's new commander-in-chief

Does the Alliance foresee any changes in military-to-military cooperation?

NATO's support for Ukraine remains unwavering, and no changes are expected to military cooperation following the appointment of Mykhailo Drapatyi as Commander-in-Chief, states Giovanni Galoforo, Public Affairs and Strategic Communications Adviser to the Chair of NATO's Military Committee, according to Suspilne.

The NATO official stressed that personnel rotations at the highest military levels are a regular and ongoing process. According to him, the change in Ukraine's military leadership will not affect the level of cooperation between the two sides.

"Of course, no changes in military-to-military cooperation are expected, as rotations in leadership positions take place regularly, while the Alliance's strategy of support remains clear and unwavering," Galoforo said.

Giovanni Galoforo noted that he has not yet had the opportunity to meet Ukraine's new Commander-in-Chief in person.

He added that he looks forward to meeting Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi.

Earlier today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially appointed Mykhailo Drapatyi as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, acting Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara met with Drapatyi to discuss further steps toward compelling Russia to agree to a long-term peace on Ukraine's terms.
