Personnel from the Maritime Guard of the State Border Guard Service successfully conducted a search-and-rescue operation in the Black Sea, evacuating the crew of the bulk carrier Golden Rose after the vessel was hit by a Russian drone.

"After the strike drone hit the stern of the vessel, a large fire broke out. The bulk carrier was located using technical surveillance systems, after which rescue boats were immediately dispatched to the scene," the Border Guard Service said.

The rescue operation was carried out under extremely difficult conditions:

・during the night;

・under the constant threat of additional Russian drone and missile attacks.

Despite the risks, the rescue crews were able to bring their boats alongside the vessel and evacuate all crew members.

Details of the rescue operation

Ukrainian rescuers evacuated all 16 crew members:

・2 Syrian nationals;

・14 Egyptian nationals.

All of the rescued sailors were safely brought ashore. None of them suffered injuries.

Earlier, one of the world's largest container shipping companies, Maersk, announced it was temporarily suspending operations through Chornomorsk Fishing Port because of intensified Russian attacks.

On July 21, the Liberia-flagged tanker Gas Lisbon was struck about 20 nautical miles off Romania's coast. An explosion occurred on board, and the vessel is believed to have been attacked by a naval drone.
