Did tornadoes touch down in North Jersey? The National Weather Service is surveying storm damage after two reported tornadoes.

Inspectors from the National Weather Service will be in New Jersey and Westchester County on Wednesday to assess potential tornado damage after Tuesday's severe storms.

A trail of destruction was left behind by storms in Morris and Essex counties after two possible tornadoes were reported.

One reported tornado was spotted shortly after 2 p.m. near Stanhope, close to the Morris-Sussex county border. High winds brought down trees near Interstate 80 and Route 206, according to reports.

Video from Parsippany appeared to show a cloud swirling near the ground around 2:45 p.m. near a golf center roughly a mile north of the Troy Hills area.

Trees and powerlines were damaged in the storm and many people remained without power Wednesday afternoon.

Residents described the tense moments as warnings appeared on their phones.

"I was getting alerts on my phone, so I went down to the building to wait for my husband," one woman said. "Everybody was in the hallway and the lobby because they were scared."

The NWS is expected to survey the reported tornado locations to determine whether tornadoes touched down and assess any damage. Officials are expected to release their findings later Tuesday.

The tornado reports have not been officially confirmed by the National Weather Service.
