Officers from the North Las Vegas Police Department arrested 39-year-old Daniel Lujan Jr. on July 19, 2026, after he fired multiple shots at houses in a North Las Vegas neighborhood.
According to police, Lujan resisted arrest and became unresponsive after he was taken into custody. Officers rushed him to the hospital, where he died. The cause and manner of his death are still pending. Police also said Lujan was under the influence but have yet to specify the substance found in his system.
Officers responded to a call about a man carrying a rifle who was randomly firing shots in a neighborhood in the 6000 block of Yellowhammer Place. Surveillance footage collected from homeowners shows the suspect shirtless, wearing blue shorts, and holding a rifle. He is seen knocking on several doors before firing multiple shots at the houses.

The homeowner of one of the houses, who asked not to be identified, was not home during the shooting. “I am just glad we weren’t home at the time because I don’t know what we would have done.”
The homeowner said one of the bullets went through her kitchen, leaving a hole in the wall. She also said she has a 1-year-old child. She said there was significant damage to the front of the house.
“I don’t know if one of us maybe would have tried to answer the door. I want to assume if we heard gunshots we would run and go upstairs, but thankfully we weren’t home,” she added.
Another resident whose house came under fire was identified as Rayan Adams. He said he was in his garage when he saw the gunman walking down the street. “I happened to look up at my street and saw the shooter coming down the street holding the gun in the middle of the day. It was hot; he had no shirt on and was sweaty. I wasn’t sure if he was playing with a squirt gun,” Adams said.
Adams added that it was only when the man got closer that he realized the suspect was carrying a real gun. “It wasn’t until he got closer that I was like, Oh yeah, that’s an AR,” Adams said.
He then immediately closed the garage door to prevent the gunman from entering and rushed inside the house to warn his wife and child. He also recorded video of the incident, showing the suspect firing shots.
“It was very scary; my wife and son were inside, the whole family was home. The family is shaken up; we will be processing it for a few days,” Adams said.
