MOUNT PLEASANT — Town police recovered three vehicles after a rash of burglaries affected two upscale housing developments.
Mount Pleasant police responded to 19 calls of vehicle break-ins on July 16 at the Charleston National subdivision. It turned out to be part of a two-week pattern of vehicle break-ins that included Hamlin Plantation.
In all, 25 vehicles were burglarized. Two adults and one juvenile were arrested by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, police said.
The Charleston National subdivision is south of the golf course near Wando High School off U.S. Highway 17.
Two of the stolen vehicles were recovered in Awendaw on the day of the reported thefts. Police also later recovered a gun that was reported stolen on July 16.
On July 17, police discovered a disabled vehicle on U.S. Highway 17 near Bulls Bay that matched the description of the one seen at the scene of break-ins.
Police identified one of three occupants from that vehicle as a Mount Pleasant runaway. The juvenile was arrested, charged with being a runaway and transported to the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.
The other vehicle occupants were adults and have since been charged, according to police. Their names and charges were not immediately available.
An officer discovered the third stolen vehicle on July 20 in the woods off Hamlin Road.
Police reminded vehicle owners to check whether vehicles are locked in the evening. All 25 burglarized vehicles were left unlocked.
