Buried at the bottom of a bullet list about car shows and cruise nights, Dodge slipped in the only line anyone cared about. In its 60th anniversary tour announcement on July 10, the brand said it will "unveil the most powerful SIXPACK-powered Charger yet" at the 11th annual Roadkill Nights on August 8 at M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan.

No horsepower number. No trim name. No pricing. Just that one carefully engineered phrase — and if you read it the way a product planner writes it, it tells you more about what isn't coming than what is.
Parse the badge, not the hype
SIXPACK is Dodge's marketing name for the 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane straight-six. That's it. It is not a body style, not a trim, and emphatically not a V8. So "most powerful SIXPACK-powered Charger yet" is a promise bounded on both sides.

The floor is 550 horsepower and 531 lb-ft, the output of the SIXPACK H.O. in today's Charger Scat Pack, which Dodge itself calls the most powerful Hurricane in production. That car does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, the quarter in 12.2, and tops out at 177 mph.
The ceiling is more interesting. Dodge's own boilerplate — repeated in release after release, including this one — describes the all-electric 670-horsepower Charger Daytona Scat Pack as the quickest and most powerful muscle car in the lineup. Corporate communications departments do not casually torpedo a claim they've been printing for two years. Anything that lands above 670 hp forces a rewrite of the Daytona's entire marketing identity. So the realistic window is somewhere north of 550 and south of 670, which is a strangely narrow band for a brand that built its reputation on obliterating round numbers.
There's a second tell. Dodge sells the Hurricane over the counter through Direct Connection, and the hottest catalog version — the HurriCrate Cat 3 long block, part number P5160622AA — is rated at the same 550 hp and 531 lb-ft, with peak torque arriving at just 3,500 rpm. Dodge has never publicly sold a Hurricane, in any form, factory or crate, that makes more than 550. Whatever shows up in Pontiac will be the first.
Where the extra power has to come from
The good news for anyone who buys one: the bottom end is already overbuilt for the job. Dodge's own engineering description of the H.O. lists a deep-skirt cast-aluminum block, a structural aluminum oil pan, cross-bolted steel main bearing caps, a forged steel crankshaft and forged steel connecting rods. That is not a fuel-economy engine wearing a boost gauge. It's a short block designed with headroom.
Which means the added output almost certainly comes from the soft stuff — turbocharger boost pressure, fuel delivery, spark and cam timing, and whatever the cooling stack can absorb — rather than a new rotating assembly. Dodge already lifted the H.O. above the 420-hp standard-output engine using a low-restriction induction system and low-restriction exhaust, so the obvious next move is more of the same plus a more aggressive calibration.
Here's the part nobody puts on a fender badge. Twin-turbo sixes making 100-plus horsepower per liter live or die on heat rejection. More boost means more intake charge temperature, which means the intercooler and the coolant circuit become the actual limiting components, not the pistons. If you plan to drive one hard in July in Georgia rather than in an air-conditioned press photo, ask specifically what changed in the cooling package. A calibration-only car and a car with real hardware behind the bumper are very different ownership propositions three summers from now.

Same logic for existing Scat Pack owners eyeing a flash tune to chase whatever number Dodge announces. Direct Connection exists precisely because Stellantis would rather sell you a documented, factory-backed part than have you discover the warranty implications of a third-party calibration the hard way. Ask before you buy, not after.
The sales math that made this happen
Dodge didn't schedule this reveal out of sentiment. The Q2 sales table explains it in two lines.
Gasoline Charger: 2,911 units in Q2, up from 578 a year earlier, and 4,583 for the first half against 1,630. Charger BEV: 294 units in Q2, down from 2,352, and 534 for the half against 4,299. The combustion car went up roughly fivefold while the electric one lost 88 percent of its volume. Meanwhile the Dodge brand overall fell 15 percent for the quarter.
So Dodge has exactly one product line with momentum, and it's the one wearing the SIXPACK badge. A halo variant on top of a growing model is a rational, cheap way to keep attention on the thing that's working.
There's a wrinkle worth flagging for anyone actually shopping. Dodge brought back Power Dollars on July 9 — $10 in retail cash per horsepower, which is $4,200 on the 420-hp R/T and $5,500 on the 550-hp Scat Pack. That program ends August 3. The new car gets revealed August 8. Five days separate the best available discount on the current Scat Pack from the debut of the model designed to make it look like the second-quickest option. If you're cross-shopping, that gap is the whole decision: take the cash on a known quantity, or wait and find out what you're giving it up for.
Historical footnote worth knowing
The SIXPACK name is being reused, not invented. In Dodge's original usage it meant three two-barrel carburetors — six barrels total — feeding a big-block V8. Applying it to a straight-six is a pun that only works because the cylinder count happens to match. Dodge's own generational history calls the 1971 Charger Super Bee the most powerful Charger of its era; that car ran a 440 with, yes, a six-barrel setup.
Whether that's clever heritage marketing or a bit of a stretch is a bar argument, not a fact. What is a fact: Dodge's 60th anniversary release runs through all eight generations, names every Hellcat and Redeye and Jailbreak by horsepower, and then describes an August unveiling that mentions no V8 at all. Read that silence however you like. The company had every opportunity to hint, and didn't.
