Miley Cyrus Struggled to Date As She Was Deemed “Too Sexual”
During her recent appearance on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast, Reclaiming, Miley Cyrus opened up about the challenges she faced in her past relationships.
Reflecting on her public image and confidence in expressing her sexuality, Cyrus said several of her former partners struggled with that side of her.
Speaking candidly during the podcast, the Grammy-winning singer said, “If I kept dressing or acting a certain way, my relationships fell apart.”
According to Cyrus, some of her former partners were hesitant to date her because they believed her public image was “too sexual.”
“No one wanted to date me because they didn’t want to be with a woman whose sexual expression part was not for them. It was like sharing with the world,” Cyrus shared.
She added, “When I was dating or I was engaged at the time, that didn’t work out because I was sharing a part of myself that men wanted to be saved for them only.”
Without naming names, Cyrus explained that some partners felt uncomfortable because her sexual expression was shared with the world.
The singer noted, “The fact that I would pose n-de, or dance in very little clothing, or show my body was making them feel like I was taking something away that was meant to be for them.”
Cyrus Pledges to Never Seek Relationship Advice From Her Mom
While discussing her past relationships, Miley Cyrus said her mother often gave her questionable dating advice.
Speaking with The Cut in September 2025, the Grammy winner said she had sworn off taking dating advice from her mother, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, as she often passed along questionable dating tips.
“Mom’s always wanted me to stay with the wrong guy ’cause they’re hot,’” Cyrus shared. However, her mother defended her own advice, claiming, “That was great advice because… At least you get to look at somebody that’s frigging hot!”
“I had to find someone who treats me with respect, and then Mom never really put that on the top three of her must-haves. Mom was like, ‘They need to be tall.’” Cyrus quipped. She is currently engaged to Maxx Morando, who she said “treats me really well and respects me.”
