Midlands public works employee arrested for stealing gasoline, SLED says
A Chester City public works employee has been arrested, Jul. 21, 2026, for using a city credit card to purchase various amounts of gas and diesel fuel, SLED says.

Using a Chester City public works fuel credit card, the now-former employee purchased various amounts of gas and diesel, investigators said.

A former Chester City employee was arrested after caught stealing gallons of gas on the city’s dime, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Monecious Raykila Woods, 38, was charged Tuesday with breach of trust with fraudulent intent, value $2,000 or less. The charge stems from Aug. 1, 2025, where investigators say Woods used a Chester City public works fuel credit card to purchase various amounts of gas and diesel fuel for personal use.

Woods’ fraudulent gas purchases lasted through Aug. 25, 2025, according to an arrest warrant. Over the course of nearly a month she’d spent - besides gasoline - $1,000 on diesel fuel for a non-city employee who, in turn, paid Woods $500, the warrant said.

The exact amount of Wood’s theft in gas and diesel fuel was not reported.

Woods was booked into the Chester County Detention Center.
