The rumors around President Donald Trump and Melania Trump’s strained relationship dynamics have often grabbed attention. While speculations have already been active, author Michael Wolff has also weighed in. He also insisted that the First Lady is a force to reckon with and everyone in the White House is reportedly afraid of her.
In the latest newsletter for his Substack, HOWL, Michael Wolff began a long write-up stating, “Everybody in the White House is afraid of Melania Trump and her power—that is, if she chooses to use it.” He noted that the White House officials realise that she wouldn’t exploit her power to threaten them, but it remains uncertain.
He continued, “They largely think she won’t, or at least won’t use it so obviously enough to directly threaten the palace, but they can’t be sure.”
The veteran author then referred to the First Couple’s alleged strained relationship, especially after the Stormy Daniels trial. “At the same time, they think that the relationship between the president and his wife is probably at its lowest point since the Stormy Daniels trial—and that was very low,” he wrote.
Wolff further pointed to Melania’s independent ventures as he posed questions about what she plans to do next. He stated, “What’s more, the development of Melania striking out on her own for profit and recognition—with her own advisors, business development team, and net profit windfall ($17 million in 2025 and estimates for two or three times that in 2026)—introduces a whole new avenue of uncertainty about her plans and intentions.”
He went on to make serious accusations about the First Couple, claiming that they “barely speak.” The author stated, “There is hardly even the pretense that she lives in the White House. Every appearance is a negotiated one.”
He mentioned that Melania’s actions are not just about the money but also about attention to herself and are reportedly seen as “most disturbing” to the White House. He elucidated, “It’s okay to make money in the Trump White House and in the Trump family, not so okay to make yourself the main event.”
“In the first Trump White House there were at least a few close Trump advisors, most notably Kellyanne Conway, who maintained good relations with the first lady. Now there are none,” he further noted.
When the Daily Beast reached out for a comment to the White House spokesman, David Ingle, he bluntly called the author a “lying piece of s–t.”
Melania likes to lead a private life, and last interacted with the press to publicly clarify that she had no association with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
