Meghan Markle has faced renewed scrutiny following reports she was annoyed at being described as "royalty" during an upcoming appearance on MasterChef Australia.
The Duchess of Sussex allegedly objected to remarks from the program's judges, who presented her as "MasterChef royalty" prior to her entrance into the kitchen.
Responding to these claims, royal commentator Tom Slater labeled Meghan as "hypocritical," suggesting she and Prince Harry have persistently capitalized on their royal titles while having withdrawn from official royal responsibilities. Some MasterChef fans have vowed not to watch Meghan's episode amid the drama.

In an interview with Sky News Australia host Jaimee Rogers, Slater stated the Sussexes had dedicated years to "trying to trade on" their royal standing.
"They've been trying to trade on these titles for a very long time," he said. "They saw it as almost a kind of cheat code into the top player of the international celebrity set."
Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles as senior working royals in 2020, yet maintained their titles as Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Soon after revealing their exit, the pair introduced their short-lived Sussex Royal brand before agreeing to stop using the designation following conversations with Buckingham Palace.
Slater contended that Meghan's alleged unease at being characterized as "royalty" contradicted the couple's ongoing utilization of their titles.
"It's just so utterly hypocritical, but we've come to expect that from these two," he said. He further asserted the Duchess attempts to portray herself as "down to earth and relatable" while concurrently capitalizing on the prestige associated with her marriage into the Royal Family.
"On the one hand, she likes to think of herself as terribly down to earth and relatable, but at the same time, [she] rankles when anyone points out the perch that she has taken for herself," Slater said.
The backlash comes amid reports that Meghan's MasterChef Australia segment, recorded during a recent trip to Australia, is scheduled to broadcast in the upcoming weeks.
In a teaser for the episode, judges welcomed the Duchess of Sussex by announcing, "We've had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before. All the way from sunny California, please welcome to MasterChef Australia, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan."
Neither Meghan nor Prince Harry has issued any public statement regarding the reports about the episode or the critique directed by Slater.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have remained in the spotlight due to their ties with the Royal Family and how their titles factor into their professional endeavors following their departure from royal duties, with discussions about their public persona continuing to generate widespread interest.
