The official gameplay trailer will be released on July 23.

Today, EA SPORTS has unveiled its cover athlete for this year's EA soccer game, EA SPORTS FC 27. The French Phenom was on the cover of EA's soccer game four years ago. There will be an official gameplay trailer on Thursday, July 23 on YouTube. EA is stating he is the cover athlete on the Ultimate Edition of EA SPORTS FC 27, as well as EA SPORTS FC Mobile. The door is being left open for the Standard Edition of the game. The World Cup just wrapped up on Sunday with Spain winning in dominating fashion, with Mbappe and France making it to the third place game.

The New Face of World Soccer

Both Ronaldo and Messi are on their way out as the face of the sport after multiple years. Mbappe has been a dominant force in European Soccer for many years, moving over to Real Madrid in 2024. Kylian Mbappe finished as LALIGA EA SPORTS' top scorer in each of his two seasons in Spain. He also claimed the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Golden Boot after scoring 15 goals in competition. Mbappe also holds the record for the most goals in World Cup history with 22 goals and 6 assists across 22 matches in three tournaments.

"To be featured on the cover of an EA SPORTS FC title for the first time is a very special moment for me,” said Kylian Mbappé. “It's an honor to continue my long-term relationship with the franchise in its latest chapter, alongside the players who have shaped its history. I can't wait for everyone to experience FC 27."

France might have finished in fourth place, but Mbappe, once again, led the tournament in goals with 10 and also had four assists. He also claimed the Golden Boot for the World Cup 2026. Kylian Mbappe is undoubtedly the best soccer player going forward on the World's stage.

“We're thrilled to welcome Kylian back to the franchise as the cover star of EA SPORTS FC 27,” said Jeff Sharma, Vice President, Franchise Strategy and Marketing at EA SPORTS FC. “Kylian’s achievements for both club and country have established him as one of the defining players of his generation. He embodies the ambition, creativity and global appeal that defines EA SPORTS FC today, and we're proud to continue our partnership with him as he returns to lead EA SPORTS FC 27.”

France previously had finished as runner-up in 2022 for the World Cup, but Mbappe scored eight goals and two assists while winning that Golden Boot, as well. France won their last World Cup in 2018, with Mbappe on the team for the first time. That was France's second World Cup championship ever.

Past Game Cover Releases

EA SPORTS has basically made Kylian Mbappe the ambassador of these soccer games. For three straight years, he graced the cover of the EA SPORTS soccer titles from 2020-2023. So when you hear that he was last on a cover four years ago, it kind of strikes a nerve elsewhere as you think there is no way that 2022 was four years ago, but here we are. He has been the face of this game on the current generation of consoles.

Mbappe was on the cover of the 2020 game across all editions. For 2021, he returned as the global cover star in his Paris Saint-Germain kit as opposed to the previous year. For 2022, Mbappe was joined by Chelsea Women's star Sam Kerr on the Ultimate Edition cover, marking the first women's appearance ever for the cover. EA would then jump to Erling Haaland, who became a media darling during this World Cup. Jude Bellingham would be on the cover of EA FC 25 and EA FC 26, with last year's game also including Jamal Musiala.
