With the release of Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated The Odyssey this weekend, it is no surprise to see Matt Damon appear at the men's World Cup final. Damon, who plays Odysseus in the film, might represent the center of popular culture at this point in time.
A GENUINE TRIUMPH: 'The Odyssey' is the thunderous epic only Christopher Nolan could make
Of course, Damon's attendance at Sunday's World Cup final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, isn't necessarily connected to any promotions for his new film. He could, and more likely is, just an avid soccer fan who wanted to attend the biggest event in professional sports. That's perfectly fine! Nonetheless, folks seeing Damon attend the final all, predictably, wound up making the same jokes about "Odysseus" making another stop on his famous, extended journey.
Close enough. Count it
