After more than 30 years together, Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson have found something that fortifies their bond while strengthening their minds.

"The Proposal" star Mary Steenburgen and her husband, "Cheers'" Ted Danson, may have their hands full with their busy careers. However, their ability to make time for one another on a daily basis, despite their schedules, is one of the reasons why marriages succeed. As part of their daily routine, the couple rises bright and early to flex their brains and play the daily New York Times games. "[We] wake up at 4:30ish," Danson told People in a December 2025 interview. "Because we had to go get ready and be in a car, we probably got halfway through Spelling Bee. These are important facts." Steenburgen chimed in that the games not only sharpen their wits, but also their unity as a couple. "And another important fact is that we're bright enough to do these games together," she said. "So we each have half a really amazing brain."

Danson and Steenburgen exercise their minds daily, completing the Wordle, Spelling Bee, and Connections. According to Hartford Hospital's chief of neurology, Mark Alberts, MD, such brain games can have a positive impact on players' cognitive abilities. "These sorts of brain exercises can be very helpful for improving your ability to think and remember," he said in a November 2024 St. Vincent's Medical Center article. It seems Steenburgen and Danson believe these daily activities are fine-tuning their thinking and memory skills. They also play an important role in bringing the couple together with a fun daily ritual. Spending time with your loved one should be a priority, but at this point, it's feeling a lot like an outdated relationship habit that needs to make a comeback.

Actors Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson have been happily married since 1995, joining the group of celebrities who've been married for over 30 years. Per Steenburgen, their recipe for success is simply trying to stay close to each other, despite their busy careers. "Like a lot of actors, we try not to be separated," she told People in a January 2026 interview. "Especially as we get older, we really don't want to be separated."

Steenburgen and Danson's efforts to stay close to each other, despite their careers, were made easier in 2025, as the former was cast as the latter's love interest in the second season of Netflix's "A Man on the Inside." Danson expressed his character's feelings for Steenburgen's reflect his own adoration for his wife. "I'm just smitten," he told The New York Times in a November 2025 interview. "It's the same way I was smitten with Mary." Meanwhile, Steenburgen found it fun, yet difficult, pretending to not know her husband, and thus falling in love with him again. "I had to unknow this person and pretend like I don't know him for 32 years," she said on "The Jennifer Hudson Show" in November 2025. "It was fun. It was amazing. I loved going to work with him." Though their work portraying love interests surely kept them occupied, we're sure it didn't deter them from finding time to play The New York Times games together every morning.
