Following the release of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer earlier this week, Marvel fans are catching up on everything they need to know before the film's release in December. Now, the 2-season hit Loki is back on the streaming charts.
The show just debuted in multiple countries around the world, including the United States on Disney+ as of July 22, where it's in seventh place, per FlixPatrol. The series also dropped in the Top 10 worldwide, returning to the charts in countries like Italy, Croatia, France, Spain, and more.
Loki Is Important for Avengers: Doomsday
Following the Avengers: Doomsday trailer drop, fans got their first look at Tom Hiddleston's Loki since 2023, when the Loki Season 2 finale aired. Loki is shown holding his TVA (Time Variance Authority) card with an uneasy look on his face.
A few shots later, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), formerly Captain America, appears. Did Loki bring Steve Rogers back into the present day? Fans will have to watch the movie to find out, but one thing is for sure: Loki on Disney+ is required viewing.
Speaking with TechRadar, Hiddleston himself confirmed how important the show is for the upcoming superhero team-up movie. While the actor hyped the series for his acting efforts, as he has been a part of the MCU for over a decade and a half, he also highlighted, "So, yeah, I would always say, if you haven't watched it, go and do so. And, if you haven't watched it before Doomsday, go and watch it again."
What Is Loki About?
Disney+'s Loki is the third television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The series was created by Michael Waldron and stars Tom Hiddleston as the titular character — the Asgardian God of Mischief and brother to Thor. Loki takes place after the events of 2019's Avengers: Endgame.
After stealing the Tesseract, which contained one of the Infinity Stones, in Avengers: Endgame, Loki creates an alternate version of himself. When the series starts, Loki is brought to the TVA, an organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors all of the different timelines and universes that exist. When Loki created a new version of himself, he became a time variant, not fitting into any universe and therefore deemed a mistake that must be erased.
But the TVA gives him two options: either get erased from existence or help fix the timeline as an even greater threat looms on the horizon. Loki chooses the latter and begins traveling through time to hunt down a female version of himself named Sylvie.
Across two seasons, Loki breaks the timeline, changing the multiverse entirely. He teams up with TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) in the "battle for the soul of the TVA," as the bureaucrats up top fight for the goal of maintaining and controlling a single "Sacred Timeline" versus a free and chaotic multiverse outside the TVA's control.
Loki became an instant hit when it premiered in June 2021. Season 1 currently has a 92% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with 340 verified reviews, and a 90% audience score. Season 2 is slightly lower with an 82% critic score and an 83% audience score, which is still Certified Fresh on the site.
