Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has claimed that a Marvel movie isn’t a Marvel movie unless Adam Driver has turned down a part in it.
Feige has made no secret of the fact that he and his colleagues have long hoped to secure the Oscar-nominated Star Wars actor to play a major character in one of their many superhero film series.
With Avengers: Doomsday set to unite characters from across different franchises later this year, it had previously been suggested that Adam had snagged a role in the new big-screen epic (although there were conflicting reports about exactly which character he’d be bringing to life).
During a recent interview between Feige and Happy Sad Confused host Josh Horowitz to promote the new Spider-Man movie, the host tried to get to the bottom of things, with the film exec confirming he’d had “many, many, many” conversations with the Girls star.
Asked if they were “getting close to getting him on board”, Feige remarked: “It’s no secret we’d like to. But it’s a tradition to Zoom with him and then he passes. That’s a long-lived tradition.”
He added that the actor “couldn’t be more cordial” in the conversations, but is “usually upfront about how he’s feeling” towards whatever the suggested project might be.
Elsewhere in the conversation, Feige reacted to comments from Ryan Gosling and Cynthia Erivo, after the Oscar nominees said they wanted to play Ghost Rider and Storm, respectively.
“You never know what the future may bring,” he teased, calling Ryan and Cynthia “very good actors” (and Ghost Rider and Storm “great characters”).
The next Marvel film to sit cinemas will be the Spider-Man outing Brand New Day, due to hit cinemas on Friday 31 July, with Avengers: Doomsday following in December.
