Marsai Martin has reached 10,000 students through her foundation, now she’s launched a fellowship to provide financial education

Marsai Martin is passionate about creating opportunities for the next generation of young adults.

Marsai’s Way Foundation

The Marsai’s Way Foundation, created by the actress, producer, and entrepreneur, empowers underserved youth through education, mentorship, scholarships, and leadership opportunities, according to the foundation’s website. Already, it has reached 10,000 students.

In an Instagram post, Martin shared that the foundation is inspired by her late cousin, Marsai Chari Murray. According to the foundation’s website, Martin was named after her cousin, and she aims to uphold her cousin’s legacy through her community-building spirit, inspiring young women to dream.

“There was a woman whose name became my own. A woman whose way became mine. I learned that none of us arrive here alone. We are carried by prayers we didn’t pray, and dreams we didn’t dream first. We are proof of what’s possible,” Martin said on Instagram. “If a way was made for me, then I have a responsibility to make one for someone else, to create, to lead, to own what we build. Because legacy isn’t what we leave behind, it’s what we pour into others while we’re here. Because every girl deserves the freedom to imagine more, to see more, become more. I carry her name. I carry her way. And now, we’re building one together.”

Marsai’s Way Foundation targets the following pillars, per its website:

FICO Financial Empowerment Fellowship

As AFROTECH previously reported, Martin and Seeds of Fortune Inc. committed to a three-year plan to support 10,000 young women through financial education, wealth-building strategies, and career skills.

The foundation’s latest initiative is the FICO Financial Empowerment Fellowship, in partnership with FICO and Seeds of Fortune, Inc which aims to empower college students with financial education and skills for how to improve their FICO scores, per Seeds of Fortune. Ten selected college students will be awarded a $1,500 scholarship and will be responsible for engaging their friends, classmates, and community members with financial education and resources that promote healthier financial decisions.

Fellows will receive financial education from FICO and leadership development through Seeds of Fortune, Inc.

“Together, we’re creating opportunities for the next generation of leaders like you to build financial confidence, give back to your communities, and shape your futures,” Martin said in a separate Instagram post. “We spend so much time preparing for our careers, but understanding your finances is just as important. And even learning how credit works, making smart financial decisions, and building wealth for your future — those are life skills that create opportunities.”

As an additional incentive, fellows will have the opportunity to attend the Marsai Martin Resolution Brunch, where they will join Martin, fellow participants, and other changemakers.

“We’ll connect, have some fun, eat some good food, celebrate your accomplishments, and continue building all together,” she expressed in the post.

Who Can Apply

To apply, you must be enrolled in a two-year or four-year college or university or in an accredited trade or vocational program in the U.S.
