Mandy Moore's ex Ryan Adams cancels tour and says he's broke and sick with rare disorder

Rock musician Ryan Adams revealed Monday that he had been forced to cancel his upcoming European tour amid a debilitating health battle.

The 51-year-old musician's promoter announced this week that he would no longer be launching the international tour due to 'circumstances beyond our control.'

And in a repost of the statement, Adams tersely explained the cancellation in his caption: 'Tough times. Been sick. Fall tour canceled.' 

In another repost shared on Monday, Adams — who apologized for how he had treated several women who had accused him of sexual abuse in a statement to the Daily Mail in 2020 – revealed the ailment was keeping him from going overseas.

'European Tour Cancelled. DRA [David Ryan Adams] is riding out a rough wave of Menieres and other bulls***,' he wrote, adding, 'Back soon.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to Adams's representatives for comment but has not yet received a response.

His promoter originally wrote, 'Due to circumstances beyond our control, the upcoming Ryan Adams European Tour has been canceled. We apologize to all those who bought tickets and were excited for these shows.' 

It added that refunds would be sent to ticket holders, who could contact their point of purchase with any questions. 

The statement concluded with a hopeful update on Adams's latest recording project. 

'Ryan is doing OK and working hard to finish the new album trilogy,' the promoter wrote. 'New music on the way soon.'

According to the Cleveland Clinic, Ménière’s disease is a rare, chronic disorder of the inner ear. 

The condition can be debilitating for musicians, as it can cause a constant ringing sensation in the ears – known as tinnitus – and can lead to worsening hearing loss. 

Ménière’s can also affect balance and mobility, as it can lead to episodes of vertigo that are so severe that affected individuals often fall to the ground.

Over time, sufferers may be stricken with permanent hearing loss and have worsening balance issues.

Although there are currently measures available to reduce symptoms and treat Ménière’s disease, there's no known cure for the condition.

Adams had previously revealed that he suffered from the disease. 

In a since-deleted post shared prior to the announcement of his tour cancellation, Adams revealed that he was 'broke' and was forced to sell off many of his prized possessions to make ends meet.

According to The US Sun, the rocker said he would be selling his guitars, recording equipment, and even a Cadillac, as well as a bevy of other items.

'I’m broke and sick and tired and defeated but my heart is blasting with hope and love and riff optimism and I appreciate anybody who can give these treasured things a new life,' he reportedly wrote in the post.

'I’m proud that I did this. That I remain transparent. This business is vile and full of snakes,' he wrote. 'But I’m proud to call it and man up to this. I’ll keep making records as long as I can afford to.

'Now I’m going to go sit in the sunlight with my cats and cry because I need to and I’m not sure how many more times I can hit this wall. When is it enough?' he concluded on a despairing note.

Adams's tough times come around seven years after multiple women, including his ex-wife, Mandy Moore, accused him of harassment and misconduct while speaking to the New York Times.

Adams, who denied the accusations, was said by the seven women to have offered to advance their musical careers, before he allegedly became vengeful and obsessive and pursued the women for sex in return. 

The women – who included the singer–songwriter Phoebe Bridgers and an anonymous woman who was allegedly only 14 at the time that she began corresponding with Adams – accused him of being verbally and emotionally abusive.

Moore also claimed that her ex-husband had been psychologically abusive to her. 

In a statement responding to the New York Times article, Adams wrote, 'The picture that this article paints is upsettingly inaccurate. Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false. I would never have inappropriate interactions with someone I thought was underage. Period.'

Although Adams has continued to deny the most serious accusations, he later shared a milquetoast public apology in which he wrote, 'To anyone I have ever hurt, however unintentionally, I apologize deeply and unreservedly.'

The performer later angered his critics with an Instagram post in mid-2019 in which he urged his fans to 'Believe women' and to 'Believe truth.'

In 2020, Adams had changed his tune when he spoke exclusively to the Daily Mail and apologized for his conduct.

'There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I've mistreated people throughout my life and career,' he said. 'All I can say is that I'm sorry. It's that simple. This period of isolation and reflection made me realize that I needed to make significant changes in my life. 

'I've gotten past the point where I would be apologizing just for the sake of being let off the hook and I know full well that any apology from me probably won't be accepted by those I've hurt,' Adams continued.

The singer and guitarist added in his statement that he had sought out professional help to get sober in the wake of the allegations.
