NFL star suffers terrifying health scare as doctors find blood clot in his lung before new season

Carolina Panthers star Taylor Moton will miss the start of the NFL season after being diagnosed last month with a blood clot in his lung.

The Panthers announced Tuesday that both Moton, a starting right tackle, and cornerback Jaycee Horn will be placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. It comes just a day before the start of training camp. 

Moton was put on blood thinners following his diagnosis in late June, with the team confirming he is 'responding well to treatment.'

The 31-year-old will continue to be monitored by the team's medical staff and is expected to return at some point during the regular season.

Horn, meanwhile, is sidelined after cutting his foot while running and requiring stitches. The Panthers anticipate Horn will return early in camp.

Moton has played in 145 games - 128 starts - since being selected in the second round by the Panthers in 2017.

Carolina added left tackle Rasheed Walker through free agency as a fill-in for left tackle Ickey Ekwonu, who ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee during a playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Panthers also drafted Georgia tackle Monroe Freeling in the first round.

Earlier this month, meanwhile, former Panthers quarterback Will Grier announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 31.

Grier was picked by Carolina in the third round of the 2019 Draft and played in two NFL games across his career, with both appearances coming in his rookie season.

He went on to join an array of other NFL teams in a backup capacity, including the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Grier announced his retirement with a very brief statement on Instagram, sharing three pictures from his college and NFL career and the caption: 'Retired today.'
