A man pretending to be a utility worker was arrested for brandishing a gun, grabbing a woman's neck and taking her purse, the NYPD said.

A man was arrested after he pretended to be a Con Edison worker and stole a woman's purse at gunpoint in Brooklyn.

Police responded to a report of a robbery just after 2 p.m. Monday near East 54th Street and Clarkson Avenue.

A 30-year-old man and 29-year-old woman told officers that a man wearing a Con Edison utility vest knocked on their door. When the woman opened the door, the unknown man brandished a gun, grabbed her neck and took her purse. The bag had her credit cards and phone inside.

The 30-year-old man, who is the woman's husband, tried to stop the alleged thief. The suspect hit him in the head with the gun before running off.

Officers were able to track the stolen phone and find the suspect nearby.

The NYPD arrested Gregory Jones of Brooklyn Tuesday after the victims confirmed his identity. He had the bag with the phone and credit cards as well as a loaded gun with him, according to police.

The 56-year-old is facing a host of charges, including robbery, strangulation, burglary and grand larceny.

At the time of his arrest, he was out on bail for an incident in May. He is facing robbery, petit larceny, menacing with a firearm and other charges in that case.
