A man has been arrested after allegedly making threats towards two city facilities in Thornton, police said.
In an update before 8 p.m., the Thornton Police Department said they arrested 28-year-old Lane Moreau in connection with the bomb threats called into the Thornton City Pool and the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center on Tuesday afternoon. He was arrested on suspicion on two counts of false reporting of explosives and was booked into the Adams County Jail.
Both city facilities were evacuated as a precaution while officers investigated the threats, and were closed for the rest of the day. Both scenes were cleared by 5 p.m. and nothing suspicious was found, police said.
The first call came into the Thornton City Pool just before 2 p.m., police said. Six minutes later, a second call came into the rec center. In both cases, Moreau said he was making a bomb threat, according to police.
"Detectives quickly identified Moreau as a suspect. Investigators arrived at his residence by 2:30 p.m. and detained him for questioning. He was taken into custody by 6 p.m., just four hours after the first call came in," police said in a media release.
Investigators also don't have any information showing that this incident is connected to the bomb threat received by Water World on July 11. However, Thornton Police are in contact with the Federal Heights Police Department and are looking into the possibility, the media release said.
Police had reunification points set up for those who were evacuated from the pool and rec center, and both facilities will resume normal operations on Wednesday.
