Austin police arrested a 29-year-old man accused of fatally shooting another man during a fight at a Montopolis residence early Saturday.
Officers were called to the 3200 block of Montopolis Drive at 12:17 a.m. after several people reported hearing gunfire, according to the Austin Police Department. They found 23-year-old Tyris Rivers suffering from a gunshot wound.
Rivers was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:28 a.m.
Homicide detectives determined Rivers had been involved in a physical altercation inside a residence before Jaquan Easley allegedly shot him, police said. Easley remained at the property until officers arrived and was taken into custody on a murder charge.
Police did not provide additional details about what led to the confrontation or whether Rivers and Easley knew each other.
