A major road in Central Kentucky is expected to be closed through at least the early afternoon while officials investigate a serious collision.
The collision happened around 10:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 27 at Brannon Road, which is near the Fayette-Jessamine County border. Nicholasville police officer Sam Wade said a tractor-trailer and a car collided in a T-bone style collision.
The driver of the car was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Wade. No other injuries were reported.
The Lexington Traffic Management Center said all southbound lanes of U.S. 27 toward Nicholasville are shut down and drivers are being diverted onto Brannon Road. Northbound traffic toward Lexington is open but moving slowly, according to Wade.
Officers with the department’s collision reconstruction unit are investigating the scene. At 12:40 p.m., Wade said he expects the road to be closed for a couple more hours.
