Logan Jones draws all-too-familiar comparison to ex-Bears Pro Bowler

Chicago Bears fans have high expectations for rookie second-round pick Logan Jones after the great college career he had at Iowa.

There is also considerable pressure on the young man to succeed, with many believing the Bears relied on him and that he has big shoes to fill in the future for recently retired Bears Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman. ESPN's Ben Solak had Jones as one of the rookies to watch for in training camp, but compared his game to how Dalman played.

"Jones is cut from the Dalman cloth: not physically dominant but smart and quick on his feet. Of course, the Johnson offense is brutally complex, which could make asking a rookie center to manage protections and run adjustments right away a recipe for disaster. Jones will likely unseat Bradbury at some point in the season. How well he performs in training camp will be the first sign of just how ready he is."

Could Logan Jones be the next Drew Dalman?

Bears fans will have to be patient to see that unfold since Garrett Bradbury is expected to be the starter at center. Head coach Ben Johnson had praised Bradbury in the offseason, leaving the possibility of the veteran center winning the job very high.

Jones is going to push Bradbury, though, as he was considered the best center in the NFL Draft this season. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection, a unanimous All-American selection in 2025, and won the Rimington Trophy as the nation's best center last year. Jones posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 79 last year, ranking 10th among centers in the nation in 2025.

The pre-draft process for Jones is what really got Bears and NFL fans excited, as he dominated at the combine. He ran the fastest time of any offensive lineman in the 40-yard dash with a 4.9-second run.

There is a chance that Jones ends up starting at some point this season, but the Bears are not going to rush him. Johnson's offense is too complex for a rookie to step in right away and perform. If Jones does, there's a strong chance he ends up having a great career in the NFL because that is rare to see.

It may be a bit before Jones hits the field, but being compared to Dalman already shows that the Bears seem to have made the right choice in selecting him.
