LJ Cason gives Jai Lucas and Miami another big win in the transfer portal

The Miami Hurricanes deep backcourt just got deeper. 

Point guard LJ Cason announced he will transfer to Miami after spending the past two seasons at Michigan. Cason, who's from Lakeland, Florida, announced his decision to enter the transfer portal last week, less than a month after Dusty May decided to leave the Wolverines to take the Dallas Mavericks job. 

LJ Cason transfer gives Miami additional experience in the backcourt

Cason carved up a nice role as Michigan's sixth man, averaging 8.4 points and 2.4 assists over 28 games in the 2025-26 season. The 6-foot-2 guard saw his sophomore campaign end in late February when he tore his ACL against Illinois. Cason is expected to miss most of the 2026-27 season, but before May left for the NBA, he said that the former 3-star prospect was recovering well and was on schedule to return to practice in November. 

"He's doing very well. He's strong. So that would give him a couple of months to practice," May said. "We'll bring him back slowly. Whatever is best for him. If he can preserve the year, we would probably hold him out."
