Liverpool could spark a move for Borussia Dortmund's Daniel Svensson to provide cover on the left side of the pitch — and the Swede's coach compared him to one of this generation's best players.
The World Cup is over, with Victor Munoz's Spain emerging victorious over Alexis Mac Allister's Argentina. As a result, attention is flipping back to club football, and Liverpool are in the market for new players ahead of the 2026-27 season getting underway.
The Reds are desperately trying to sign a left-winger, with PSG’s Bradley Barcola emerging as a key target. However, a more versatile and defensive option has emerged in the form of Daniel Svensson, who has been compared to FC Bayern and Germany star Joshua Kimmich.

Born in Stockholm in 2002, Svensson built his early career at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland before transferring to Borussia Dortmund in 2025. He established himself as a key player for the Bundesliga side and was named to Sweden's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Svensson impressed at the World Cup, but Liverpool had shown interest back in May. Much like Yan Diomande, the Reds may have to fight off interest from Arsenal to land the Swede.
It’s clear to see why Svensson has piqued the interest of Liverpool. Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac personally rates the 24-year-old highly and compared him to one of his former players during his time at Bayern: Kimmich.
“He’s a Duracell bunny. He reminds me a bit of Joshua Kimmich,” Kovac said.
“He also plays every game and runs 12 or 13 kilometers. It’s the same distance in a different position, but it shows how tireless these guys are and how they march on without end.”
Kimmich has been a mainstay in the Bayern and Germany teams throughout his career, so being compared to him is incredibly high praise.
Described as a “Duracell bunny” by Kovac, Svensson’s high-energy style would excite Liverpool fans. He’d certainly serve as an apt replacement for Andy Robertson, who has joined Spurs after departing Anfield.
If Svensson does join, he’d bolster the left-back room for Liverpool. He will have some top competition for the left-back spot in Andoni Iraola’s former protege at Bournemouth, Milos Kerkez, while Kostas Tsmikas remains on the books.
Svensson’s versatility is a bonus. He can play anywhere on the left, be it at left-back, left wing-back, or left midfield. Svensson is expected to cost around $57 million.
