LeBron James could find himself running it back with a former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate if the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player decides to take his talents to South Beach once again.
Amid speculation that James could choose the Miami Heat as his next team, Barry Jackson and Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reported that there are murmurs around the league that free-agent big man Kevin Love could join him there.
“If James picks the Heat, there has been talk that Kevin Love could return to Miami. That certainly cannot be ruled out, but isn’t something Miami has pursued to this point,” Jackson and Chiang wrote.
James and Love spent several seasons together with Cleveland, during which they reached the top of the league as part of one of the most memorable NBA championship runs in history.
In 2016, James, Love and the Cavs stunned the highly favored Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, overcoming a 3-1 series deficit to give Cleveland its first (and still only) NBA title.
But unlike James, Love’s game has declined significantly since then. Over the last four seasons, he’s averaged only 7.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 17.1 minutes per game for the Cavs, Heat and the Utah Jazz.
Still, if Love can help the Heat lure James to Miami, he’s someone worth keeping an eye on for Pat Riley and company.
