Good Morning Britain presenter Laura Tobin has left fans surprised and delighted with the “exciting” news of her brand new job.
The weather presenter has a background in meteorology, working at and presenting the weather for the BBC for five years before joining ITV in 2012.
But Tobin, who has presented Good Morning Britain’s weather segments since the show began in 2014, is now taking on a new role: author.
On Tuesday (21 July), the 44-year-old announced that she has written her first ever book titled Come Rain or Shine, which she said would teach readers “everything you need to know about the weather”.
The accompanying video showed Tobin taking a deep breath before holding the book up to the camera, saying: “I’m so excited because I can finally say – ahhh! – I’ve written a book about my favourite topic: the weather.
“It is one of our favourite topics of conversation, you come and stop me all the time asking me so many questions. ’Why’s it so hot?’ ’When’s it going to rain?’ ’Why do we name rain storms?’ There is all of that and more in here.”
Tobin said that she hoped by the end of the book, readers “should be able to look up at the clouds and be able to predict the weather” themselves.
The book will hit shelves on 1 October and is available for presale now, Tobin explained, adding: “I’ve loved writing it and can’t wait for you to read it.”
The news was celebrated by Good Morning Britain’s entertainment editor Richard Arnold, who wrote: “AT LAST!!!”
And Tobin’s followers shared the same enthusiasm, sending messages of congratulations and promises to put the book on their Christmas lists.
Last year, the presenter made headlines for something other than the weather following an awkward on-air moment with GMB’s Richard Madeley.
After Madeley appeared to have ignored Tobin’s updates on the weather and asked her to repeat herself, the meteorologist snapped, telling him: “I literally just said that, Richard. That’s literally what I just said.”
Susanna Reid then stepped in to smooth things over, wrapping up the segment by thanking Tobin and saying: ”We’ll be paying attention next time, definitely.”
