Less than three weeks after signing him, the Lakers have waived rookie guard Peter Suder, confirms Dave McMenamin of ESPN (Twitter link). The move was necessary in order for the team to open up a two-way contract slot to finalize its reported agreement with Arthur Kaluma.

Suder, who went undrafted out of Miami (Ohio) last month, was named MAC Player of the Year after leading his team to a 31-0 regular season. He averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 33 games while shooting 54.6% from the field and 42.1% from three-point range.

Suder agreed to a two-way deal with the Lakers right after the draft concluded and finalized the contract during the first week of July, but he struggled in six Summer League outings in the California Classic and Las Vegas, averaging 5.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 17.5 minutes per game, with a .333/.222/.750 shooting line.

A source familiar with the situation tells McMenamin that the Coachella Valley Lakers – Los Angeles’ G League team – would still like to add Suder to their roster as an affiliate player, but the club understands that the undrafted free agent will explore his options.

Chris Manon and AK Okereke are the Lakers’ other two-way players along with the newcomer Kaluma.
