The New York Knicks are still basking in the glow of their recent NBA championship win, defeating the San Antonio Spurs in five games. Deuce McBride had a brutal NBA Finals performance, but still had some big moments for the Knicks during the regular season and earlier playoff rounds.
Recently, McBride spoke at the Fanatics FanFest in New York City, and may or may not have called out some of his fellow NBA players with a quote about winning.
“If more guys bought in and understood their role, the NBA would look a lot different… It’s the NBA’s fault. We reward guys that lose and pay guys that lose, truthfully,” said McBride, per NBA Retweet on X, formerly Twitter.

McBride didn’t mention anyone by name, but fans in the comment section were quick to pull out their magnifying glasses and do some detective work.
“A lot of rich losers in the NBA,” wrote one fan alongside a GIF of Washington Wizards point guard Trae Young.
“Direct shot at James Harden, Russ Westbrook, Luka, Devin Booker and Paul George,” speculated another.
Young has been a villain in New York City for several years, dating back to the 2021 season in which he and the Atlanta Hawks eliminated the Knicks in five games. Since then, fans have kept the rivalry alive by chanting his name anytime their team does anything noteworthy, while Young has continued to play along with the villain role.
As McBride pointed out, the Knicks had plenty of players, himself included, who were willing to buy into their roles and perhaps settle for less production than they were used to in previous situations.
In any case, the Knicks will find out their schedule for their title defense 2026-27 season at some point next month.
