The Cabinet of Ministers has completed the legal formalities for appointing the new head of the Defense Ministry Major General Yevhen Khmara has been appointed acting Minister of Defense of Ukraine. The decision was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, according to government resolutionsNo. 722-r and No. 723-r.
According to the government's decision, Khmara will officially assume the duties of acting defense minister starting July 20.
Before that, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed him as a deputy defense minister. The relevant resolutions were adopted on July 17 and published today on the Government Portal.
Major General Khmara will lead the ministry until a new minister of defense is appointed.
As previously reported, on July 16 President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he had instructed Yevhen Khmara, who was then serving as acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), to perform the duties of defense minister.
At the time, the head of state noted that once the necessary legal procedures are completed, he would submit a formal request to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament - ed.) for his appointment as minister.
