The Alliance is aware of the Kremlin's new plans
NATO forces will rapidly deploy additional military capabilities to Lithuania if Russian provocations in the region lead to a critical security situation, according to Deividas Matulionis, the president’s chief national security adviser, reports LRT.
According to Nausėda’s adviser, the threat of Russian provocations in the Baltic region and other parts of Europe is indeed rapidly increasing.
They could occur in the near future, so Alliance members are seriously preparing for various scenarios.
Lithuania has already issued a warning about the Kremlin’s plans — NATO is determined to respond decisively.
"If all indicators were to show that the situation is critical, I have no doubt that additional forces and air defence capabilities would be allocated," Matulionis emphasized.
According to him, Russia may resort to provocations ahead of the State Duma elections. They are scheduled for September 18–20, 2026.
Exactly what to expect from the enemy remains unknown. This could likely be:
・A false flag operation to blame Ukraine for everything;
・Acts of sabotage similar to those that have continued to regularly occur in Europe.
The Lithuanian president’s adviser warned that not only the Baltic countries but also other Kyiv-committed allies could come under a new Russian attack.
Matulionis denied rumors that Russia is preparing for a full-scale invasion of a NATO member state.
