Kentucky Wildcats starting QB reveals what led him to Lexington

The Kentucky Wildcats will, more than likely, be led by Kenny Minchey next season. The 6-foot-2 quarterback was originally the 14th-best quarterback in his recruiting class, the same one which Texas Longhorns' star Arch Manning led the charge in.

Minchey chose Notre Dame, where he spent three seasons. Having had a total of three pass attempts throughout his first two seasons, the opportunities were limited for the potential star at one of the premier football programs in the country. After a third season in which he did see a bit more action but ended with 26 attempts for 196 passing yards, he chose to head elsewhere, which was likely the best path forward for him to shine on the brightest stage.

With a revamped coaching staff, Minchey chose Kentucky, and the Cats staff was a major reason why he ended up in Lexington. Joe Sloan, who was at LSU as its offensive coordinator prior to joining the Wildcats, and Will Stein will both be in their first season at Kentucky, and the three together should be able to put a product on the field that keeps games close in a competitive SEC.

That said, at media day, Minchey spoke on what why he chose the Wildcats.

Sloan was a former quarterback himself, competing at East Carolina, where he spent all four of his collegiate seasons. Along with Sloan, Minchey will be working with Nate Dodson, the quarterbacks coach. Dodson was the assistant tight end coach at LSU for the past few seasons, and he was with Colorado, in a quarterbacks coach role, prior to that.

While there might be some growing pains as all four figure out a new offense, there's no doubt going to be a high ceiling in Lexington for the Cats this upcoming season.
