Kate Middleton can convince me to try anything—even the most out-there trend. If she wears it, I want it. But the thing is, the Princess of Wales always looks elegant; there’s always a sort of universal appeal to her look, which I guess is part of her magic of being a princess, too. So, it’s not going to take much to convince me (nor you) that you must try out the regal, rich-looking detail she just spotlighted during her latest Wimbledon outing.
Middleton has been making the tennis courts her fashion stage, which she does every year, but there’s something about 2026’s outings that feel extra fresh. The gingham dress she wore to a polo match is a must-try, but the stunning green midi she pulled out for day 14 of Wimbledon is an instant hit (sorry, had to). The color felt fresh for summer, but the detail that made it look so rich and wealth-oozing was the cape, which also got me thinking: Capes and cape detailing have been trending for a while now, though slightly more under the radar. That said, Middleton’s outing is certainly going to create a frenzy around anything that has this swaying, gorgeous, blow-in-the-wind effect that makes any piece—be it a simple white tee or a sheer dress—look 10 times more elegant.
TL;DR? The detail is exactly what you think it is; a cape attached to a silhouette of your choosing. For Middleton, it was a long, scarf-like cape that billowed out in the back of her dress, but if you want something more everyday-friendly, this H&M top is the perfect option. TBH, lots of styles were sold out, so I can tell that there’s major interest around this silhouette. My advice? Check out my assortment below to grab the best of the best before everything sells out.
H&M Cape-Detail Top
H&M just dropped at Nordstrom, and it’s the best thing that happened this month (okay, dramatic, but you get it). This cape-detail top is the perfect everyday style you can and should style with jeans for a non-boring look that’s still easy-going. At $25, I want both colors, though the black is nearly sold out.
Meshki Ida Sheer Asymmetrical Long-Sleeve Cape
I want to dance and twirl in this top! I’m obsessed with all things Meshki, so I wasn’t surprised when I saw this sheer long-sleeve cape-style top on its website. I can picture this paired with jeans for a low-key look or a black silk skirt for date night. The options are endless.
MakeMeChic Asymmetrical Cape Blouse
Leave it to Amazon to have an under-$30 option that looks at least double its actual price. I love the large cape draping on the front and back as well as the fitted silhouette that’s perfect for pairing with low-cut, baggy denim. There are plenty of colors to choose from, though I’m a neutrals girl through and through.
