It took Joy Reid a grand total of six seconds to trample over her claim Jews are “perfectly safe” in America during the Tuesday episode of her YouTube show.
The ex-MS NOW star star spent the final segment of her show bashing Fox News host and President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump for recently criticizing 103 Democratic lawmakers who voted to end U.S. aid to Israel.
Trump argued anti-Israel views are closely linked to the surge in anti-Semitism in the U.S.; she also said American Jews have told her they do not feel comfortable wearing religious jewelry or garb in public.
Reid scoffed at Trump’s argument. She then went on a long-winded rant:
You’re saying unless we allow Israel to kill at will as many men, women, and children as they want, bomb as many churches as they want, bomb as many mosques, hospitals, schools, unless they’re allowed to wipe out as many Palestinians as they want in Gaza, as many Arabs they want, including Christians in Lebanon, as many people in Iran as they want — as long as they can kill as many people as they want, and unless settlers, right-wing settlers can take as much land as they want, as many farms as they want, kill as many people as they want and be supported by a foreign military, the IDF in doing so, unless we send that foreign military unlimited funds, then Jewish people in New York City in the U.S. are afraid to walk the streets because it’s Nazism.
I do not understand how that works, that does not make sense to me. I can assure you, I am here in Harlem right now, Jewish people are perfectly safe walking the streets of the United States.
Reid then contradicted herself in her next sentence.
“But [Benjamin] Netanyahu has made folks a lot less safe, because people keep attaching all Jewish people to his genocidal policies,” she said. “And that is the problem — it’s that he’s creating a world in which people blame ordinary, regular, nice Jewish people that didn’t do anything for everything Israel does.”
Her argument comes a few weeks after Reid said she was done supporting the Democratic Party unless it abandoned Israel as an ally.
It also followed Trump saying the Democrats voting to end foreign aid to Israel was a bad sign on the July 16 episode of Outnumbered.
“This sentiment is spreading like a virus. And it’s not just about financial aid,” Trump said. “It’s about antisemitism. We’ve seen so much of this take hold in our country in really frightening ways. You talk to Jewish New Yorkers, they are terrified to walk down the street with a star emblem on their necklace, or to wear a yarmulke or show who they truly are. That’s not America.”
As Axios reported in May, physical assaults against Jews last year “reached the highest levels since 1979.”
And when it came to “anti-Semitic incidents,” Axios reported “New York City saw 860 incidents — by far the largest cluster nationally.”
Trump warned on Outnumbered, “Don’t forget that it was 85 years ago this sentiment spread around the world. Look at what happened in Nazi Germany. It’s not that far off to think we are heading down a path that is frighteningly close to what happened there.”
Reid said it was absurd for Trump to invoke Nazi Germany. She said Trump had no business making the argument when you consider the “fascism that her father-in-law is implementing.”
