Jordan Spieth’s struggles over the past few years have been well-documented.
Spieth’s last PGA Tour win came way back in April 2022 at the RBC Heritage.
And ever since then, the 32-year-old from Dallas has been chasing that ever-elusive victory.
Jordan Spieth is a long way from being at his best right now, despite what he keeps saying.
Spieth’s poor showing at The Open Championship last week was symptomatic of his underwhelming season as a whole.
Meanwhile, Spieth has been urged to change coaches, in order to give him a totally fresh perspective on things.
However, the real key to Spieth turning things around might have to wait until 2028.
Jordan Spieth’s best chance at redemption may have to wait until 2028
It may well be a case of taking a step back before he can take two steps forward.
And the Challenger Series, which will start in 2028, could represent his best chance of doing just that.
Spieth’s game is nowhere near the levels he needs it to be in order to compete right now.
He is ranked outside the top 50 in strokes gained putting, strokes gained approach, and strokes gained off the tee.
Spieth has still managed to gain sponsor’s exemptions into some of the big events but in 2028, those will be things of the past.
He has even admitted himself that he doesn’t feel comfortable taking sponsors’ exemptions into the Signature Events.
So, from the start of the 2028 season onwards, Spieth might be better served by playing on the Challenger Series.
The fields there will be far weaker than what we will see week in, week out on the Championship Series.
The 32-year-old from Dallas will have more chance of winning an event on the Challenger Series and it kind of feels like that’s all he needs.
He would gain a huge amount of confidence from winning a tournament, regardless of how strong the field is.
Jordan Spieth desperately needs a confidence boost
If he did win on the Challenger Series, it wouldn’t matter that he wasn’t competing against the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
Professional golf is incredibly difficult and a win is a win, regardless of who you are playing against.
Who knows, he might work incredibly hard on his game during the off-season and come out firing on all cylinders in 2027.
However, the outlook is bleak right now in that regard.
Jordan Spieth may need to take a step back in 2028 in order to truly discover the very best version of himself.
Spieth won’t like dropping down a level and not competing against the very best players in the world, but playing on the Challenger Series might just be a necessity for him, if he is ever to regain his very best form.
