Joe Burrow has never hesitated to show how much the 2019 Heisman Trophy means to him, but a frightening home robbery has changed the way he protects it.
The Cincinnati Bengals’ quarterback shared extra precautions he takes and that the trophy is no longer kept casually. He commented during his appearance at Fanatics Fest in New York, where fans asked about the iconic piece of football history.
“I have it locked up in a safe place for all you robbers out there who are getting any ideas,” said Joe Burrow at Fanatics Fest in New York.
The Heisman Trophy is Burrow’s most prized possession. The break-in at his Ohio home led to this decision. Even now, in some rankings, Burrow shows up among the top Heisman performers out of all the winners in the last decade, with a jaw-dropping 5,671 yards and 60 TDs.
While the Heisman Trophy was on display beside him during the Fanatics Fest event, Burrow made it clear that the real one is secured in a location impossible for thieves to access, as per NFL executive Arye Pulli’s X post.
Burrow’s Anderson Township home was robbed while the Bengals were on the road for a Monday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys in December 2024.
After the incident, Burrow admitted that his privacy had been violated and he was frustrated. Since that incident, he has become more cautious. The Heisman Trophy represents one of the greatest seasons in college football history.
Burrow won the 2019 Heisman Trophy after leading LSU to a 15-0 record. He won the Heisman by the record margin of 1,846 votes and later led LSU to the national championship before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Since he entered the NFL, Burrow has been one of the league’s top QBs. He has earned multiple Pro Bowl selections, led the Bengals to a Super Bowl LVI final, and topped the NFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns in the 2024 season.
Now, Burrow is taking no chances when it comes to protecting one of college football’s most recognizable awards, which also marks his milestone.
Recently, Burrow not only attended the Fanatics Fest but was all over the place this offseason.

Joe Burrow was among the celebrities and athletes attending the FIFA World Cup Final, joining thousands of fans for one of the year’s biggest sporting events on July 19, 2026.
“Burrow popped up at a few events over the weekend, but the final at MetLife Stadium was the highlight,” wrote Chris Roling of Bengals Wire.
Before the World Cup, Burrow appeared at Fanatics Fest in New York. And during the start of July, he was spotted around UFC 329. He also attended a fashion show after his minicamp in June.
The outings show Burrow’s growing reputation as one of the NFL’s most famous personalities off the field.
