After the Other Mommy trailer built up buzz while playing exclusively in theaters before The Odyssey, it is now officially available online.

The trailer for Other Mommy has finally arrived.

The anticipated horror movie, which debuts on October 9, is an adaptation of the novel Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman (Bird Box) that was directed by Rob Savage (Host), written by Nathan Elston (Succession), and produced by James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring). 2026's Other Mommy, which stars Jessica Chastain, Jay Duplass, Arabella Olivia Clark, and Karen Allen, generated buzz after the trailer began playing exclusively in theaters ahead of the hit Christopher Nolan epic The Odyssey.

Now, the Other Mommy trailer is finally available online, via Universal Pictures. The trailer kicks off with a seemingly innocuous scene of Jessica Chastain's character, Ursula, coming home on her lunch break to spend time with her daughter, Bela (Clark). However, it quickly becomes clear that Bela is nervous and hiding cookie dough ice cream behind her back.

Then Ursula begins to act more and more strange, first offering to make scrambled eggs, which she had just made for breakfast. She eventually decides on pasta and, while preparing the meal, reminisces about the time "when you and I were one person," asking Bela if she remembers where she was before she was in her mother's womb. As the pasta begins to bubble and burn, Ursula asks, "can I go into your heart?" acting creepier and creepier as silent tears begin to slide down her face.

The scene cuts to the smoke alarm going off and Bela's dad, Russ (Duplass) rushing in to help her. While scolding her about cooking on her own, he kneels down and Ursula can be seen hiding under the table, her body impossibly contorted. What follows is a barrage of creepy moments from other scenes in the movie, which make it clear that the house is being visited by an entity that looks exactly like Ursula, and that Bela is becoming less sure which is which. When Other Mommy was first announced, the concept of the movie seemed strangely similar to 2013's Mama, Andy Muschietti's horror movie adapting his short film of the same name. That movie, which also starred Jessica Chastain, featured her character at war with a ghostly maternal entity that took care of her newly adopted children while they were abandoned in the woods for years.

While both Jessica Chastain horror movies do bear many surface similarities, this trailer dispels the notion that Other Mommy is in any way similar to Mama in execution. Whereas Mama was more of a straightforward haunting story, this new movie is something even more sinister. In addition to adding some important wrinkles to the basic concept, it seems set up to allow Chastain to give the sort of tour de force performance that often drives horror movies where actors get to play multiple characters, like in Jordan Peele's Us.

Given the initial buzz surrounding the movie and the eeriness of the trailer, it seems like Other Mommy is positioning itself to be the must-watch horror movie of the Halloween season, where it will be competing with the survival thriller Whalefall and the DC Studios outing Clayface.
