Michigan State point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. just got a new tattoo ahead of the 2026-27 season. He’s locked in for a run.

Jeremy Fears Jr. made the decision to come back to Michigan State for a few reasons.

One, he said he wanted to show loyalty to Tom Izzo. Two, he wants to improve in some key areas in order to be better prepared for the NBA come next year. And three, he wants to win a national championship with Michigan State.

The Spartans’ PG1 is locked in.

Just how locked in is he regarding Michigan State’s impending national title chase? He just got some new ink to show off his Spartan pride with Sparty on his leg.

The tattoo is simple but that’s what makes it great. I love the Rocky tattoo looking straight up to the Sparty tattoo with the No. 1 right behind him. He’s now going to be representing Michigan State for the rest of his life. This is the level of locked in that you want to see from your starting All-American point guard before the biggest college basketball season of his life.

Jeremy Fears Jr. needs to tune out the noise

Any and every headline involving Fears seems to be previewing how great he’s going to do this season and how he’s the favorite to win some major awards, but he needs to tune that out.

That’s right, Fears needs to block out the positive headlines because we all know that the “fat and sassy” Izzo quote is locked and loaded for the first game where the junior point guard tries to do too much and it either costs Michigan State a win or nearly does. It’s a tradition with the great Izzo teams and I do agree, he can’t be reading his own newspaper clippings.

Is it bad that everyone is high on Fears? No, but that puts a lot of pressure on a young athlete. Fortunately, Fears is a competitor and he’s used to being in this position. He’s been an elite player since he can remember so expectations for him have always been sky-high.

However, this is the year for him. A lot is riding on this season. If he wants to go down as a Michigan State legend, he needs to build on the 2025-26 season and help lead the Spartans to their first Final Four since Cassius Winston was leading the way. If he wants to become a first-round pick in next year’s NBA draft, he’ll need to improve his shot and flash more “consistent” athleticms, as he says.

There’s a good chance that he does both this season and gets Michigan State to the biggest stage by making everyone else around him better.

The pieces are there for Fears to shine. He has some really good scorers to maintain that high assist rate and he’s surrounded by a top-five recruiting class as well as a transfer who he happened to be teammates with during his Nike EYBL days.

When I say “buy stock now” over a tattoo, I’m obviously joking. But I’m serious when I say it in general because I believe this could be the team to get Izzo back on top.
