Jared Goff calls underrated Lions playmaker the best at his position

The Detroit Lions have one of the most stacked offenses in the game. Dan Campbell's team has playmakers at all levels, which is why John Morton's lone season as their offensive coordinator was so disappointing.

However, it might also be why some people seem to overlook their weapons. Either they don't pay enough attention, or maybe Lions players are victims of circumstances, as they have to deal with their teammates' shadows.

Whatever the case, it seems that Amon-Ra St. Brown has become criminally underrated. Despite clearly being elite, his name isn't mentioned often among the creme de la creme. That's why, in a recent appearance on The Insiders, Jared Goff wanted to do right by his teammate and give him his flowers, calling him the best in the game.

"He's the best, he really is," Goff said. "I think he's the best wide receiver in the league. I think he's the only guy who catches it, runs with it, blocks, he does everything, he can do it all. It's a lot of fun to work with him, and to play with him. The way he works in practice, he makes me want to get him the ball, he makes me want to reward him for all his hard work. And it makes everyone around him work harder. He's such a great teammate, great player, great person, and I love playing with him."

Goff and St. Brown have developed a strong chemistry throughout the course of the years. Last season, they combined for 117 receptions, 1,401 yards, and eleven touchdowns, and that was despite also having Sam LaPorta for most of the season and Jameson Williams also drawing a big share of targets.

St. Brown isn't the biggest guy, but he plays much bigger than his size. He's physical, and his ability to move through traffic is second to none among slot specialists in the game. Also, he may have one of the best hands we've seen in recent years.

The Lions have their fair share of weapons. Williams, St. Brown, LaPorta, Jahmyr Gibbs, and now maybe even Isaac TeSlaa can all go off on any given night. Even so, St. Brown is the focal point of the passing game and the one who draws the most eyeballs on defense. That's not a coincidence.

Still, his name isn't mentioned as often when discussing the finest pass catchers in the league. And with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Puka Nacua going nuclear last season, the bar is much higher for St. Brown and other star wide receivers in 2026.

Of course, that's not necessarily a bad thing. He's a fearless competitor who has already beaten the odds and outplayed most of the guys taken before him in the NFL Draft. He's hearing all the outside noise, keeping receipts, and will look to prove his quarterback right when he takes the field again in a much-needed bounce-back season for Dan Campbell's team.
