James Franco says he’s got proof aliens are real, but the internet isn’t sure whether or not to believe him.
The 48-year-old actor and filmmaker has been posting cryptic videos on his TikTok, which has gained nearly 1 million followers since he created the account in June.
In several videos, Franco claims he has footage of an alien on his property.
Proof of ‘aliens’
The mystery began on June 25 when Franco shared a video insisting he wasn’t losing touch with reality.
“They want me to stop. People think I’m acting crazy. Whatever. I’m not acting crazy. I saw something,” he said.
Franco later followed up with more videos, claiming he would share proof on July 13.
When the day finally came, the Spring Breakers star made good on his promise. He posted a TikTok of himself holding up his laptop, playing black-and-white security footage.
In the clip, a human figure with an alien-like face wanders around a tree, opens a door and peeks into his windows.
“I can’t keep this quiet,” the Oscar nominee said. “I need to get this out for that very reason that people are trying to stop me.”
The post ended with a teaser for what’s next: “A lot more footage dropping soon! It gets very crazy!!!”
Fans split
The reaction online has been mixed. Some commenters seem convinced, while others are running out of patience with the Pineapple Express star.
“Lol keeping a straight face is pretty impressive,” one TikToker wrote. Even Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi chimed in, writing, “Stop,” along with a disgruntled face emoji.
Many fans believe the mysterious posts could be an elaborate teaser for a project Franco has in the works. “This movie better be f****** good,” one person commented.
Others have speculated that the posts are connected to a possible sequel to Pineapple Express, the 2008 comedy Franco starred in alongside Seth Rogen.
Back in the spotlight
Even if the alien footage turns out to be unrelated to a new release, Franco has several projects lined up, including a Rambo prequel titled John Rambo, the thriller Golden State Killer and the comedy Toad.
Franco has also been making more public appearances, including a trip to the Cannes Film Festival in May with girlfriend Izabel Pakzad. The festival hosted a market screening of his upcoming action-thriller Foster.
It wasn’t the actor’s first time at the annual film festival. He previously attended Cannes to showcase As I Lay Dying in 2013 and the animated film The Little Prince in 2015. He returned to the festival’s red carpet in 2024 and 2025.
James Franco’s controversial past
Franco’s return to the spotlight comes after he was accused of inappropriate behavior by five women in 2018. He settled with two of the women in 2021 and kept a low profile for several years after that.
In one of his first interviews following the scandal, Franco opened up on “The Jess Cagle Show” about his past relationship struggles. He admitted he had not always been faithful before meeting Pakzad.
In 2024, Franco told Variety he had “moved past” that part of his life. “Being told you’re bad is painful,” he said at the time. “But ultimately, that’s kind of what I needed to just stop going the way I was going.”
