Bruce Willis, 71, was seen in good spirits during a rare public outing in Studio City, riding shotgun on an hour-long car ride as he continues his battle with frontotemporal dementia

Bruce Willis was spotted out for a drive in Studio City as the iconic actor continues his fight against frontotemporal dementia and aphasia.

The 71-year-old Die Hard legend was diagnosed with the progressive condition in February 2023, a diagnosis confirmed by his wife Emma Heming Willis, who has assumed a caregiving role for her husband. The Hollywood star, who makes rare public appearances, seemed in good spirits while riding as a passenger in an SUV during an hour-long drive on Sunday, July 19.

This sighting comes after Bruce Willis fell asleep on a rare outing after his daughter's heartbreaking confession.

Bruce looked comfortable during the outing, donning a blue baseball cap as he was chauffeured around the area. Since his diagnosis, the actor has stepped away from his career and largely withdrawn from public view.

After the Sunday afternoon excursion, the star was returned to his residence, where he occupies a separate single-story dwelling from his wife and children, as his medical condition necessitates continuous care, reports the Express US.

Bruce's wife, Emma, has taken on caregiving responsibilities for her husband and brought in a dedicated care team to manage the actor's declining health.

Though living in separate quarters, Emma maintains that she and their young daughters, 14-year-old Mabel and 11-year-old Evelyn, regularly visit their father's home as the family copes with the heartbreaking diagnosis. The pair wed in 2009, nine years following his split from actress Demi Moore, with whom Bruce has three grown daughters.

This isn't the first occasion Bruce has been photographed enjoying a drive. In April, he was captured beaming with joy while being chauffeured through Los Angeles following his 71st birthday celebrations in March.

Bruce's wife authored a bestselling memoir chronicling her husband's devastating diagnosis and her evolution into his advocate and caregiver, entitled The Unexpected Journey.

She has also established The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund, a charitable organization committed to increasing awareness of frontotemporal dementia, funding research initiatives, and providing assistance to caregivers.

Discussing the initiative, she explained that the family's experience has illuminated the struggles countless others endure privately. "This journey with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) has opened my eyes to the realities so many families face," she wrote in a statement.

"It's what inspired me to create The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund to raise awareness of FTD, support research, and stand beside the caregivers who carry so much every day."

Bruce's neurodegenerative disorder impacts the frontal and temporal regions of the brain, which has compromised the celebrated actor's capacity to communicate and comprehend language, though his long-term memory has reportedly stayed intact.

Despite the seriousness of his diagnosis, the actor seems to be enveloped by support from Emma, Demi, and his five daughters. The blended family frequently posts touching photographs on social media from their family get-togethers, giving fans updates on Bruce's health journey.
