2026 has been a great year for James Bond fans, and not just because Amazon continues to dish out new information regarding the next 007 film that’s been in the works since last year. Back in May, IO Interactive finally released 007 First Light out into the world, and the game was met with such an overwhelmingly positive reception that many fans have proclaimed Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin) as the best fit to take over the role of James Bond in live-action. It’s unlikely that this will happen, though, especially after the latest casting update confirmed that Amazon is soon to begin the second round of auditions for Bond. No names have been shared yet, but former casting director Debbie McWilliams admits that she thinks popular names like Jacob Elordiand Callum Turnerare poor choices to play 007.
The fact is: Whoever is next in line to step into the shoes of 007 will have a tough job following Daniel Craig, who played the character gracefully for five films across 15 years. Craig first suited up as Bond all the way back in 2006 in Casino Royale, and it wasn’t until 2021 that he said goodbye to the character in No Time to Die, which also stars Ana de Armas. No Time to Die was the end of an era for Bond, not just for Craig, but it marked the first time in history that the character met such a definitive end on-screen. Still, Craig’s final Bond movie has long been a fan-favorite, and although it’s without a streaming home in America right now, it’s one of the most popular movies in the world on VOD.
When Does the Next James Bond Movie Come Out?
Amazon has yet to announce when the next James Bond movie will be released in theaters, but it likely won’t be anytime in the next few years. Denis Villeneuve is directing with a script from Steven Knight, and Villeneuve has to finish work on Dune: Part Three before he jumps into the world of 007. The third and final Dune movie launches in theaters later this year on December 18, but once the year turns and 2027 is here, Villeneuve will be free to work on the new Bond movie as much as he likes, without the confines of the Arraki desert weighing him down.
