Wonder Woman is swimming upstream at the moment, particularly in the live-action arena. Things ended extremely poorly for Gal Gadot in the Snyderverse and DCEU, seeing as Wonder Woman 1984 was objectively terrible (following a phenomenal introduction to the Universe) and, as such, Wonder Woman 3 was scrapped ... though the door isn't closed entirely.
DC Studios has since moved on, only they actually haven't, because James Gunn's DCU still has not cast its Princess Diana of Themyscira, leaving the seat vacant until possibly Superman: Man of Tomorrow in 2027, or later, but DC Comics is on the job, though.
Those still rightfully clinging to either Gal Gadot's original Wonder Woman film and/or DC Animated Universe's Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, or the recent action that floods the pages of Absolute Wonder Woman, now have a new Diana to cling to.
And she comes courtesy of Superman #40.

Wonder Woman Trades in Her Lasso For ... Firearms?
Per the official Superman #40 synopsis: "SUPERBOY-PRIME VS. MANCHESTER BLACK FOR THE SOUL OF DC COMICS! The villainous Manchester Black demands to be resurrected and thinks Superboy-Prime knows how to give him his life back."
It continued: "But it's more than that. Manchester Black wants to escape the world of comics and come to our world! It's meta versus meta! If Prime survives, he will still have to deal with members of the Super-Family, who are not happy he wants to be Superman! This all builds up to next month's Superman blockbuster summer story!"
What obviously stands out the most here is Wonder Woman's redesign. Though there are other redesigns of Princess Diana that have proven equally shocking, this one simply can't be brushed past. Her eye patch combined with the fact she's unleashing two very large firearms, in a total rage, hints at an unexpected arc for her in the near future at DC Comics.
Wonder Woman Remains in Flux in the DCU, For Now
This version of Wonder Woman feels more like a Rambress (female Rambo, just go with it) than the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out, but DC Comics has our attention, an alternate current version also using a Green Lantern ring.
"One of Kal-El's many alternate selves is completing his path toward redemption in the pages of Superman. Superboy-Prime, whose awareness of the comic book medium itself elevated him into a uniquely metafictional villain, wages one of his fiercest battles against Manchester Black, who also possesses a level of self-awareness that allows him to play with reality," wrote ScreenRant's Nicolas Ayala in his review of Superman #40.
He continued: "While discussing the comic books they exist in, Manchester Black speaks into existence a timeline where a scarred Wonder Woman wields futuristic dual guns in a jungle, wearing an eyepatch, a single shoulder pad, pants, and a bandana."
So while the world awaits Gunn's decision on who'll play Wonder Woman in the DCU's currently forming Justice League, DC Comics is going full savage mode to keep things spicy and unpredictable.
